Fire Extends To Business Center In Nimba

By Solomon T. Gaye

A business center in Nimba County’s commercial city of Ganta was gutted with fire over the weekend.

Speaking in Ganta, Princess Kakia disclosed that fire engulfed the building at about 6:15am, while preparing breakfast for the family.

Madam Kakia named 300 pieces of solar plate and 300 cartons of electrical devices as some of the items that were reportedly burnt and damaged by the fire, estimating the cost of the entire goods damaged at over US$500,000.

“My family and I sell imported and used materials, including computers, solar plates, among other things,” Madam Kakia lamented.

Speaking to this paper on behalf of the family, Aaron Kormah appealed to the government, as well as local and international NGOs, to help them rebuild their lives.

This is the third business center that has been destroyed by fire in less than a year, creating serious concern among the residents in the county.

It can be recalled that at the beginning of 2023, several business centers along the Guinea road junction caught fire and left several properties damaged and people displaced.

Also, in September of 2023, a three-bedroom house was destroyed by fire around Bassa Community that left four persons dead with property damaged.

The lack of fire trucks and trained fire fighters and rescue team is posing a threat to Ganta, one of the fastest growing cities in Liberia.

Residents believe that a robust firefighting mechanism will help curb some of these fire incidents in the city.
