Lewis Brown Leads CPP’s Campaign

By Bill W. Cooper

Amidst claims and counter-claims from major opposition political parties of a one round victory during the October 10 general elections, the standard bearer of the Collaborating Political Parties has termed as ‘complete nonsense’, the ruling CDC’s one round victory claim.

Alexander Cummings, who is also the political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), said, “You won 38 percent  of the total votes in the first round of the 2017 Elections; you cannot be living on falsehood, telling the Liberian people you will get a one-round victory.”

“Because the writings of your failures over the last five years should tell you that your rhetoric of a first-round victory in the 2023 elections is only nonsense,” Mr. Cummings asserted.

He spoke Friday, August 18, 2023, at his jam-packed headquarters, with supporters from across Montserrado and its environs, during a program marking the official naming ceremony of ‘Fixers’ campaign team, ahead of the October 10, 2023 Presidential and Legislative  Elections.

Furthermore, the show of strength by the CPP has renewed hope among partisans and sympathizers, with various communities across Montserrado now being mobilized for an ensuing national campaign launch soon.

Speaking to the cheering supporters standing under the heavy downpour of rain, Cummings expressed, “the CPP is confident more than ever of defeating President George Manneh Weah, and take the presidency of Liberia in January 2024.”

According to him, the start of a new journey for Liberia’s Presidency under a CPP-led administration has commenced, stating that the new journey requires a collective effort of all Liberians, especially those that have been marginalized and suppressed over the last five years of incumbent President George M. Weah.

He also called on all to rise to the occasion to make the dream of a CPP government come true, by making sure to come out and vote for the CPP-Fixer ticket, and emphasized, “Let me also tell President Weah that it’s his responsibility to protect the peace we currently enjoy; if anything goes wrong, you will be held responsible!”

Cummings continued that the CPP remains the best alternative for Liberia and calls on Liberians wanting a free, prosperous, and enjoyable Liberia to rally behind the Cummings-Brumskine ticket, in order to get Liberia ‘fixed’ from years of corruption, backwardness, poverty, and bad economy, among others.

He also encouraged all Liberians not to believe the rhetoric of President Weah and his CDC officials by grand-standing for a first round, and noted, “The Liberian people can no longer wait to see this country being taken over by a qualified and competent leadership.”

This, the CPP Standard Bearer stressed, “Let me sound this warning to Mr. Weah and his CDC that there is no way that the Liberian people will elect you and your CDC because you’ve failed them big-time!”.

“There are more reasons why the CPP believes that we will win the election. We have all it takes to bring the needed development to Liberia; to change this messy economy; to put nourishing food on the tables of all; to bring back affordable electricity, and pipe-borne water, and guarantee roads and superstructures. Yes, the CPP is committed to fixing this country.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Cummings at the same time used the platform to announce an 800-member campaign team reflecting geographical balance, stressing the country’s cultural and traditional political diversity.

Mr. Cummings named long-time diplomat and former Information Minister, Lewis G. Browne, as National Campaign Chairman, while former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Togar McIntosh, is the National Campaign Advisor.

The CPP also named the National Campaign Chairmen of the 15 counties, delegating them, the authority to select other committed and dedicated partisans as team members to conduct and coordinate the CPP campaign activities in the various counties.

Cummings, naming the first batch of national campaign chairmen and deputies, also announced that all CPP legislative aspirants will serve as campaign advisors.

He then expressed gratitude to the thousands of partisans, supporters, sympathizers, and well-wishers, who braved the rain to attend the ceremony at the CPP headquarters in Monrovia.

Cummings maintained that the huge turnout and show of support in Montserrado County and elsewhere for his Presidential bid has assured him of victory on October 10, reaffirming the CPP administration’s commitment to the formation of an inclusive government, without political, ethnic or religious discrimination.
