Will Charlyne Brumskine Abandon Legislative Bid?

By Bill W. Cooper
With just five months to Liberia Presidential and Legislative elections, the Inquirer Newspaper has reliably been informed that the standard bearer of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) is expected to announce Charlyne Brumskine as his running mate for the October 10, 2023 polls.
According to our high placed source within the CPP, Mr. Cummings, who is also the political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) made the disclosure during a recently held meeting with his party officials, where he said that choosing Cllr. Brumskine as his running mate was a well-thought-out decision.
Besides, at the recent convention where Cummings was named as Standard bearer, the vice standard bearer could not be named according to the ANC’s policy because the instrument mandates that the vice standard bearer must be named in his/her county of origin.
Recently, it was anticipated that Mr. Cummings could have announced his running mate after being elected as the standard bearer of the collaboration during its first National Convention held in the Ganta City, Nimba County.
Accordingly, that did not happen on grounds that the constitution of Alexander Cummings’ ANC prohibits the announcement of a running mate from outside the county of origin of the candidate to be named.
The CPP is a conglomeration of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) and a fraction of the Liberty Party (LP) headed by its embattled Chairperson, Musa Hassan Bility of which Charlyne Brusmskine, the daughter of the LP’s founding father, Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine is a part.
The ANC ex-chairperson, Lafayette Gould, who raised a last-minute motion that the would-be running mate be named in the person’s county of nativity, in concurrence with the party’s constitution proposed that such a decision be made within a period of 21 days, but delegates unanimously proposed that the pronouncement be done within the grace period of 14 days.
According to our source, Mr. Cummings and delegates’ in line with the timeframe given for the pronouncement of his running mate, will on Saturday, May 27, 2023 storm the port City of Buchannan, Grand Bassa County where his will officially announce Cllr. Brumskine as his choice for the elections.
Our source explained that Mr. Cummings further informed them that Charlyne, who recently dux the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) annual text is a strong and capable leader who shares his vision for the development and forward match of Liberia.
Our source added Cummings is of the strongest conviction that the pronouncement of Charlyne would resonate campaign message of ‘Real Change and transformation’ with voters in Bassa and other counties owing to the fact that she is a well-respected lawyer, with a wealth of experience in private practice in the United States of America.
According to the information gathered, Mr. Cummings has exhausted his own evaluation of all of the proposals brought forth by the CPP’s special committee and is set to make the pronouncement in the county of origin of his preferred choice for running mate.
However, as thousands of CPP partisans, supporters, sympathizers and well-wishers from the 15 counties are expected to be in attendance, the big question is has Charlyn abandoned her quest to represent the people of Grand Bassa County in the House of Representatives?
