Three teams namely Global Pharma, NPA Anchor and Paynesville Football Clubs have been promoted to the Liberia Football Association (LFA) top flight while three others Jubilee, Nimba United and Sandi Football Clubs were relegated to division two.
Those teams were promoted and demoted at the close of the football association national league which ended Sunday, 23 April. Jubilee, Nimba United and Sandi Football Clubs bided farewell to the nation’s premier championship over the weekend after collecting below the minimum points needed to maintain slot for the next season.
Their relegation have given the national second division champion Global Pharma along with the second and third place clubs three spaces for promotion in the 2023/24 league season.
The Church Boys Jubilee were dumped in the relegation zone for Freeport FC after both sides were even on points but different on goals. With 26 points Freeport survived on 32 goals scored and 42 goals conceded while Jubilee scored 34 goals and conceded 47.
Nimba United from Mount Barclay in Montserrado County and Sandi FC from the Cotton Tree Community in Margibi County displayed the poorest performance all through the first division league ending up as the least teams. They sat at the bottom of the table with 18 points each conceding the highest number of goals and scoring the less.
Nimba United managed three wins, nine draws and loosed 14 league games. United scored 17 goals according to the league statistics and conceded 54 goals.
Sandi on the other hand took just six wins from all 26 matches. The relegated boys on their final match against the champion LISCR FC scored a goal taking their tally of goals scored to 28. They conceded 72 goals making them team with the most conceded goals of the season.
The three clubs will now drop to the second division to replace Global Pharma, NPA Anchor and Paynesville that were are promoted to the top league.
The newly crowned champion of the second division league Global Pharma won the title with 62 points. Five points clear of NPA and Paynesville that were all leveled with 57 points.
