Authorities of the Liberia National Police (LNP) told the Liberian Senate that they have declared Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson Koijee and Varlee Telleh as “Person of Interest” over their alleged involved into the assassination attack on the home of former Chief Justice, Gloria Musu Scott.
Police Inspector General Patrick Sudue appearing before the Liberian Senate disclosed that they have already invited Mayor Koijee and Varlee to answer to the allegations linking them to the attacks.
He said their decision was triggered following an allegation from Cllr. Jerome Verdier on the Spoon Network recently for which they are expected to appear at the headquarters of the Liberia National Police on today by 10:AM.
“After we heard about this allegation against both Mayor Koijee and Telleh, we contacted the both of them and invited them to the police headquarters on tomorrow and Mayor Koijee have also agreed to cooperate with the Police investigation,” he informed the Senate.
Commenting on the Justice Scott saga, Director Sudue explained that they are yet to talk to Justice Scott officially concerning the matter; something he said is slowing down the investigation.
According to him, the first two attacks were reported by the driver of Justice Musu Scott and he explained that “We were informed about buggery and we immediately sent police officer at her house to remedy the situation.”
“So, during our conversation with the Justice Scott, we talked and did a risk assessment and informed her that the fence hosting her house was very low and that the land was on one acre and she was advised to have a private security to help protect her,” he explained.
IG Sudue further said, “She consented and got two private security guards from Genesis Security Firm and the next action the police took was to do a patrol at night to her residence and spent some time at her home and that was our respond to the incident.”
Meanwhile, Sudue told that august body that upon the attack on Justice Scott’s home, the Police immediately responded and took seize of the matter.
The Police IG frowned on the former Chief Justice’s refusal to explain her ordeal to the Police, something he said is affecting the investigation.
“We have on several occasions asked her but she has postponed us on a daily basis and I am pleading with you all to help talk to her so that we can beef-up the investigation,” he added
Meanwhile, the Acting Justice Minister Nyanti Tuan and IG Sudue provided conflicting information to members of the Liberia Senate about the proliferation fire arms among citizens in the country.
The acting Justice Minister in his deliberation to that body alarmed that he has seen majority of citizens carrying fire arms; something he said poses serious threat to the country’s peace and stability.
Mr. Tuan who could not name those Liberians when quizzed by the senators, stressed, “I have seen several individuals with arms but don’t know who they are because somehow they might have obtained the arms from the Arms Commission and bear licenses for them.”
But in response, IG Sudue denied the Minister’s assertion saying, “There is no ordinary Liberians in the possession of firearms anywhere in this country and I am speaking with fact.”
He added, “I, as the Police IG, I’m responsible to ensure the protection of the country and its citizenry, so if any one person is found carrying arms, we will definitely arrest them and prosecute them in line with the law.”
