Stop The Divisive Messages …CECPAP Warns; condemns Tuesday’s Violence in Sinkor

The Center for Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding (CECPAP) says the current wave of violence in the country has the propensity to once more make Liberia the epicenter of violence among the comity of nations.
CECPAP attributes the wave of violence in the country to divisive massages emanating from all sectors of the Liberian society. The peace advocate group said these proviolence messages being spread around by political leaders serve as a motivating factor for Liberians, mainly the youngsters, to take to the streets to cause chaos and engage in acts that undermine the prevailing peace and tranquility in Liberia.
According to a release signed by CECPAP’s Executive Director, Mr. Charles Crawford, the organization said it wishes to remind all Liberians, especially political leaders, about the importance of jealously safeguarding Liberia’s peace and stability that was earned on the precious bloods of not only Liberians but foreigners who left their countries, families, and loved ones to come save Liberians from destroying themselves.
CECPAP said the painful experience Liberians endured during the 14 years of violent conflict is enough lesson for Liberia to never again allow the dark days of violent acts to triumph over the time of peace, adding “it is about time Liberia’s political leaders begin to cultivate the air of peace and love for country so that their followers can emulate in order to make Liberia a peaceful place for all mankind.
At the same time, the Center is calling on Liberians from every sector of the Liberian society to resist violence in all forms when dealing with issues that confront their wellbeing. The Center stresses the need for Liberians to maintain the current wave of peace in the country by becoming protectors of the peaceful atmosphere that exists in their communities.
Meanwhile, CECPAP has strongly condemned Tuesday’s violence perpetrated in the Sinkor belt of Monrovia by some unscrupulous elements under the aegis of their political parties that led to several people sustaining injuries and destruction of properties.
CECPAP described the Sinkor violence as an act of savagery and gangsterism and hastened to register its condemnation in the strongest term, noting that acts of lawlessness should never be condoned in the Liberia society. The organization calls on the Liberia National Police to arrest and bring to justice perpetrators of this atrocious acts.
The peace advocacy group said while it encourages Liberians from all walks of life to be proactive in the political system of their country by voicing out issues that affect their wellbeing, trekking the path of violence to signal any form of dislike on national issues is reprehensible and furthered throwback the substantial gains made by Liberia’s international partners to make the country a peaceful place for all.
