As the campaign for a new leadership of the Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA) fifteen local bars representing Liberia’s fifteen counties have endorsed the presidential bid of Cllr. Bornor M. Varmah
The grand endorsement ceremony was held at the Unification Park, popularly known as PHP Park, near the BTC Barracks in Central Monrovia yesterday drawing dozens of lawyers and aspirants, who have shared visions and plans as Varmah for the LNBA.
Members and officials of the local bars praised Cllr. Varmah for his competency, honesty, and track record of service to the legal profession and the nation, highlighting these qualities as the basis for their endorsement.
In his acceptance speech, Cllr. Varmah thanked the local bars for their endorsement and expressed his commitment to revitalizing the LNBA.
He pledged to advocate for the autonomy of the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, improve financial transparency, and construct a well-equipped LNBA headquarters.
“I am deeply honored by your endorsement,” Cllr. Varmah remarked. “I intend to lead a bar that enhances the rule of law in Liberia, engages the branches of government on critical policies, and introduces a robust welfare program for our members without additional costs.”
Cllr. Varmah also assured members that their contributions of US$180 for Attorneys-at-Law and US$380 for Counselors-at-Law would be properly managed to advance their collective interests.
A major focus of Cllr. Varmah’s platform is securing autonomy for the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law.
He emphasized its importance as a cornerstone of legal education in Liberia and vowed to work with the National Legislature to amend the University of Liberia’s charter to grant the law school greater independence.
“We will elevate the conversation around the autonomy of the law school, ensuring its continued excellence in legal training,” he said.
“This includes fostering robust exchange programs, improving governance, and securing the resources needed for its growth.”
The LNBA is scheduled to hold its Annual Convention in Gompa, Nimba County, on November 30, 2024.
Members will elect new leadership to serve a three-year term. Cllr. Varmah is one of the key contenders, and his endorsements from the fifteen local bars bolster his chances in the race.
