A two-day youth Land Rights Conference, geared towards promoting youth Land Rights awareness and leadership, has ended, in the commercial city of Ganta, Nimba County.
The conference, held at Jackie’s Guest House, brought together 80 young participants from the various electoral districts in Nimba, Bong, and Lofa counties.
Speaking on behalf of Landesa, the Country Director, Constance Teage, explained that the conference is designed to educate the youth in these three counties about customary land formalization process, boundary harmonization, community land management committee, confirmatory survey, self-identification, community rules, bylaws, and the land management plan, among other things.
Speaking on behalf of Liberia Land Authority (LLA), Stanley N. Toe, Executive Director of Liberia Land Authority, thanked Landesa for their continued support towards LLA in the country.
The LLA Director added that Landesa’s support towards LLA is helping to settle land disputes and create awareness for land related issues in the 15 counties of Liberia.
Speaking on the same issue and on behalf of Gompa City Corporation, Africano Dolo thanked organizers of the program for selecting Nimba as the venue for the program.
The conference, which kicked off on July 31 and ended on August 1, 2023, brought together three of the administrators working with Liberia Land Authority, assigned in Nimba, Bong, and Lofa, as observers.
Garmai Supu, speaking for the young women of Lofa, highlighted that the conference was very educative, seeing as women are not allowed to own land in Lofa and other parts of Liberia.
“I beg the organizers of the conference to continue with this conference in other rural areas, for women to know their rights about land and other land related issues,” Supu said.
