WPWHDO Celebrates 16- Days Of Activism

The Women of the Township of West Point across all political, cultural and social divides under the auspices of the West Point Women in Health and Development Organization (WPWHDO) last week officially celebrated 16-days of activism against sexual gender based violence crimes against women and children in Liberia. The 16-day of activism which was centered around the theme: “generational equality”, was amongst other things intended to create massive awareness and draw public attention to the issues of sexual gender based violence crimes against women and children and even men in Liberian society.
Here in Liberia, WPWHDO joined other organizations in Liberia and around the world as a whole to speak on the issues affecting women and children as was also acknowledged by the Sexual Gender Based Violence Crimes Unit (SGBVCU) of the Ministry of Justice when the agency in a similar manner observed the historic event.
The WPWHDO led by its President, Mrs. Nelly Cooper mobilized hundreds of women and girls as well as their male counterparts converged in the their numbers in Township of West Point to mark the celebration of the day.
The Celebration of the day was so colorful and dramatic as Mrs. Cooper cautioned the generality of the public especially male counterparts to respect the rights of women and children, most especially girls against Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) crimes in Liberia. The WPWHDO President admonished men to stop beating on their women, while at the same time advised women to respect their husbands.
The WPWHDO President including the participants comprising women, children and girls as well as students dressed in their official T-Shirts be fitting the day appreciated the good work of Kvinna Till Kvinna, an international organization that is sponsoring the WPWHDO in its work to speak against and sensitize the public on the issue of Sexual Gender Based Violence Crimes against women and children.
Kvinna Till Kvinna through WPWHDO has and continues to train women and children and even males on the issues of Sexual Gender Based Violence Crimes against women and children, while at the same time provided capacity building training through WPWHDO in the Township of West Point and even beyond.
Lastly, WPWHDO with support from Kvinna Till Kvinna has helped to strengthening the capacity of women and children to understand the psychological impact of SGBV and how solutions can be derived to mitigate such problems.
