In a stunning display of skill and determination, World Girls Football Club triumphed over Ravia Angels with a dominant 4-0 victory in the first leg of the Orange Cup semifinals. The match, held at the Samuel Kanyon Doe sports complex over the weekend saw World Girls FC produce one of their most commanding performances of the season, with a brace from striker Hawa Fatomah leading the charge.
From the outset, World Girls FC asserted their dominance, with Fatomah making an immediate impact. The star striker opened the scoring with a well-executed shot in the 12th minute, setting the tone for what would be a one-sided affair. Her precision and poise in front of goal left Ravia Angels’ defense scrambling, as they struggled to contain the forward’s movement and vision.
The first-half dominance continued for World Girls FC, and just before the break, they doubled their lead. In the 39th minute, Marion Browne stepped up to the penalty spot after a foul in the box, coolly converting the penalty to give her team a 2-0 lead. Browne’s calmness under pressure added to the growing confidence within the squad as they entered the locker rooms with a two-goal advantage.
Ravia Angels were unable to recover in the second half, as the Iron Ladies’ midfield displayed their usual composure, reclaiming possession and nullifying any potential threats from their opponents. The defensive line, led by captain Amina Diallo, stood firm, ensuring that Ravia Angels could barely make an impact in the attacking third.
Fatomah wasn’t finished, however. In the 65th minute, she found the back of the net again, making it 3-0. Her second goal came from a well-timed run into the box, where she received a precise cross and calmly finished past the goalkeeper.
The icing on the cake came in the 79th minute when Princess Browne added another goal to the scoreline, capitalizing on a loose ball in the box to make it 4-0. The goal was a fitting conclusion to an all-around excellent performance from World Girls FC.
Coach Famata Dean could not hide her excitement after the match, praising her players for their discipline, teamwork, and clinical finishing. “We played exactly how we wanted to today,” said Dean. “The team was composed, aggressive, and most importantly, we finished our chances. Hawa and Marion were exceptional, but this was a true team effort.”
With a commanding 4-0 lead heading into the second leg, World Girls FC is in a strong position to secure their spot in the Orange Cup final. Ravia Angels will have a mountain to climb in the return leg, and it will take a miraculous performance to overturn such a significant deficit.
The second leg promises to be an exciting affair, but based on this performance, World Girls FC looks poised to book their place in the final.
