The Vice president of Administration of Shaita Angels Football Club, Benetta Urey, says the lack of financial sponsorship to women clubs in the country is a challenge.
Miss Urey said, the level of support and sponsorship determines the growth and development in the sector and contributes a lot to the outcomes of what clubs bring to the sporting world.
Speaking to a local media outlet recently the female sports administrator and promoter revealed that over the years statistics shows that the low turn-up of fans during women football games have led to low sponsorship deals.
“We all know that sports need to be sponsored to help in whatever way but the problem we are facing now is that male football teams are mostly attracted to sponsors than female clubs,” she said.
Miss Urey added, “If we go to get a sponsorship deal of certain amount as a female club, it is most at times denied and refused by those engaged but if a male club goes for that same amount it is negotiable and encouraged. All of that is because of the turn-up and number of persons following the women aspects of the game.”
However, Shaita Angel’s administrator prospects growth in the feature of women football across Liberia.
She is optimistic that game will grow according to time and more contribution from stakeholders in next years to come.
Benetta Urey lauded the current leadership of the Liberia Football Association for its interest and passion for developing women football across the country.
According to her, the future is bright with the LFA position in ensuring that women sport gets the necessary support and new programs instituted to put Liberia on par with other nations.
She said, “In the next five years, women sport will be at a very improved level in Liberia. There will be more budgetary allocations and new partners and sponsors will become connected and we will have the best.
