The Concerned Citizens of Grand Gedeh County is urging President Joseph Boakai to withdraw the appointment of Alex Chersia Grant as Superintendent of the county.
According to them, Grant served as District 1 Representative, and was appointed by President Boakai on April 24, following confirmation by the Liberian Senate, with over 20 Senators voting ‘’Yes’’ in the favor of Grant.
The group expressed, “Grant’s appointment is gravely disturbing the peace of the county; we are therefore requesting the interventions of the international missions in Liberia, in ensuring that Boakai withdraws the appointment of Grant as Superintendent of the county.”
The National Chairperson of the Concerned Grand Gedeh Citizens, Weafus Kamawon Quitoe, said the residents of the county rejected Grant’s leadership when he contested as a senatorial candidate in the just-ended 2023 elections.
“Superintendent Grant brought the county to disrepute when it was discovered that he forged his academic credentials, for which he was expelled from the University of Liberia and the Cuttington University as reported in FrontPage Africa Newspaper on May 13, 2021,” he said.
“The Grand Gedeh County Elders Council in Monrovia, representing elders from the different sections of the county, held a press conference on March 12, and pleaded with the appointing authority to withdraw Grant’s nomination,” Quitoe narrated.
He concluded that the Grand Gedeh County Traditional Elders Council also pleaded again with the appointing authority to withdraw Grant’s nomination as head of the local government in the county.
Despite the many concerns from these different groups, the Liberian Senate unanimously voted for the confirmation of Grant, which has sparked debate among residents in the county, calling on President Boakai to withdraw the appointment.
