Foreign Affairs Minister, Gbehzongar M. Findley, has called on citizens of the country to use dialogue as the means of expressing their grievances in order to maintain the peace the country now enjoys, irrespective of their political differences.
According to Minister Findley, Liberia needs to strive on the path of peace, love for country and love for each other, stressing that the destiny of the country lies solely in the hands of every Liberian.
He made the disclosure over the weekend while serving as proxy for President Weah at an official program marking the George Weah Peace Prize Kukatornon Peace Festival held in Kakata, Margibi County.
According to the MOFA boss, love for country cannot be over emphasized. “It is unto to us as citizens to respect the laws of the country, respect the rights of every citizen and at the same time protect public properties,” Min. Findley added.
“Too many times, too often we destroy government properties and assumed that it is for somebody else. It is ours and we must protect it and must safeguard it. President Weah has asked me to tell you that he is 100% committed to maintaining the peace in Liberia and 100% committed to the continuous process of reconciliation” he averred.
“If Liberia is to continue on the path of reconciliation and peace, they must exhibit love for one another because that is the only way Liberians can make the difference for their country,” the MOFA boss alluded.
“Liberians have no choice as citizens but to love one another and live together, whether you are a bassa, vai, kru, kpelleh, woman or man from a different religious background, we have no choice but to love our country,” the Foreign Minister said.
Min. Findley then urged citizens to work towards the peace and reconciliation of the country, pointing out that the country has had a history of violence and peace.
In a related development, Women in Peace Building Network (WIPNET) has won the 2019 Kukatornon George Weah Peace Prize that worth LD$1million for their valuable services over the years in maintaining the peace of the country.
