The Chief of Staff in the office of former President George Weah, Lenn Eugene Nagbe, has publicly accused President Joseph Boakai’s administration of attempting to “steal” the vision of former President George Weah and his Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) government.
The former Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) boss also claimed that since President Boakai took office, the country has faced unprecedented challenges, asserting that the economic and social conditions for ordinary Liberians have deteriorated significantly.
Speaking when he appeared as a guest on OK FM yesterday, March 31, 2025, Nagbe further criticized the government for failing to implement effective policies that would benefit the populace, suggesting that Boakai’s leadership lacks the innovative spirit that characterized Weah’s tenure.
Despite laughing at its development plan, the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID) recently, Nagbe argued that the practical reality of the agenda is yet to be seen, unlike Weah’s Pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD), which greatly benefited Liberians.
He, at the same time, described such alleged attempts as a ‘theft of vision’ on the part of the current administration, disclosing that Weah’s government did 60 per cent of projects and works that the current administration is attempting to steal without recognizing Weah’s efforts.
Nagbe maintained, “There is nothing new that the current government of President Boakai is doing. Instead, they are continuing works initiated by the George Weah government and are taking the credit without referencing the originator of these projects or works.”
Referencing some of the projects, Nagbe named the ongoing road projects in Nimba as well as the RIA road, which he said were paid for and ongoing by Weah before President Boakai and his team could take over the mantle of authority of the country.
He also referenced the Lofa road project, coupled with the recent dedication and turnover of the fisheries college at the University of Liberia, thus frowning that the initiative started and was completed by the CDC government through Emma Glassco but was never acknowledged during the occasion.
Nagbe explained, “My friend, Cyrus Sagbe, the new Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority, spoke at the program without giving credit to his predecessor who worked very hard to see the realization of that particular project, and this is sad.”
Meanwhile, Nagbe also used the platform and challenged President Boakai to do more in addressing the pressing issues of the country and do away with attacking the CDC, noting that the malice by the UP over the CDC is too high and not helpful for Liberia’s growth.
He alleged, “The imposition of new taxes, untold hardship, more children are not in school due to financial issues and their parents are also not working, health care issues, the case of the Emirates Hospital in Gbarpolu among others, are issues this President needs to focus on.”
“Attacking former President Weah, who has served already and is no longer in the position, will not profit the country or the UP administration anything, but again, former President Weah is not surprised by the UP’s dismal performance, as he expected just that.
When they blunder, they blame it on Weah, and they also continue to render insults at the former President. This is unfair, but we believe that President Boakai supports this because these are his officials, and he is following the national issues,” he asserted.
Nagbe added, “But one thing that is sure is that former President Weah is not and will not be bothered about that because he is more focused on collaborating with other parties to save this country, but he will encourage everyone that the discourse be more civil.”
