The alleged refusal of the out-going county administration to account for some US$25,000 targeted at renovating the Bain-Garr administrative compound in Zuluyee Town in Nimba County is becoming a dialogue among the residents.
Speaking on behalf of the residents, Commissioner Amos Gbatu disclosed that the amount of US$ 25,000 for the renovation of the commissioner’s compound is unaccountable while the compound lies in ruins.
According to Commissioner Gbatu, during the 2022 County Council’s sitting held in Sanniquellie, the nine lawmakers agreed and passed a budget of US$ 25,000 for the sole purpose of renovating the Zuluyee Town commissioner compound but up to the present building remains untouched.
“Where is the money? The past administration headed by Superintendent Nelson Korquoi and members of the PMC committee responsible for implementation of projects in the County are all tight-lipped over the issue,” Commissioner Gbatu said.
During the 2022 County Council’s sitting held in Sanniquellie and presided over by the late Senator Prince Y. Johnson, all lawmakers from Nimba County agreed and passed a budget of over half a million in United States dollars to carry out developments in the nine electoral districts.
The lawmakers after consultative meetings with all stakeholders including women’s groups, traditional chiefs, youth representatives, and local authorities, agreed and passed a budget of half a million to repair the 21 pieces of earth moving equipment owned by the county as well as for the use of other development initiatives in the districts.
Since the end of the 2022 Council County sitting, many of the projects that were budgeted for including the commissioner’s compound in Zuluyee Town and the repair of the county-owned 21 pieces of yellow machines are all languishing.
When this paper contacted former superintendent Korquoi’s resident in Gompa City over the weekend, the family members revealed that he was out of the yard.
This paper contacted the MIA Human Resource Chief, Darius Vaye, he disclosed that all projects coupled with payroll forensic audits have been carried out by the GAC and that the administration in the county is still awaiting outcome of the report.
“All projects or budget approved by the outgoing lawmakers in any of the districts that were not implemented by the outgoing administrations under the PMC committees were all cataloged by the GAC team during the exercise,” Vaye explained.
