What Killed Albertha Sankay? -As Family Rebukes Husband For Wife Battering

This paper has unearthed that Albertha Sankay’s death in her GSA Road residence was as a result of alleged domestic violence and wanton battering by her husband, Cllr. Yancy Horton, who is believed to be on the family’s record for allegedly beating on their daughter.

According to information gathered from sources close to the family within their residential vicinity, the incident occurred three days ago in the Samuel Dahn Community and has since left residents in total panic.

The husband who is a legal practitioner, a lawyer by profession, according to the investigation is a well-known figure that has rendered legal services for some Liberians, but the allegations surrounding his involvement in the mysterious killing of his wife is also resulting into family conflict thus leaving friends and community dwellers bewildered and frustrated.

Even though details surrounding the alleged incident are still scanty, family sources who spoke on anonymity revealed some harrowing and horrifying information; though on counter-claims.

According to the deceased family, the argument between Cllr. Horton and his wife, Albertha escalated into a violent confrontation which allegedly turned physical, resulting to the deceased sustaining fatal wounds that subsequently led to her untimely demise.

According to them, this is not the first time Cllr. Horton has abused his spouse, as on several occasions, he had publicly disgraced her on grounds that she is in an affair with other men.

The family sources explained that prior to their daughter’s death; and on numerous occasions, they have been involved during the settling of disputes between the couple wherein some instances, the accused threatened their daughter with death.

Contrary to a report, the family members maintained that their daughter was neither sick nor intoxicated before her demise thereby describing the accused’s family assertion as a tactics only to deceive the public and sway the matter.

“We are not crazy. Mr. Horton is very evil and wicked. We believe that this man killed our daughter and all has been about jealousy and cheating and on some occasions, he has also accused his wife of drinking at lot of alcohol. So, no one should believe his lies and trick because he really beat on our daughter and we are convince that our daughter died of internal bleeding,” they narrated.

But in reaction to the deceased’s family accusations, some people believed to be family members of Cllr. Horton denied the allegations and stated that their late daughter in-law might have died from an unknown sickness and excessive drinking.

“My son, these people lying and we will not sit and allow them to spoil and ruin the reputation of our son. Sankay has been battling sickness for long and she also used to love drinking. So, at no point in time she was ever beaten by our son to death,” they added.

Meanwhile, according to our reporter who visited the home of the deceased, community dwellers admitted that there have been some misunderstandings between the couple before the passing of Sankay.

According to some of them who are believed to friends and acquaintances and described Ms. Sankay as a vibrant and kind-hearted woman who was heavily involved in community initiatives further expressed shock over her death.

The community dwellers also stated that the untimely death of their friend and colleague has left a void that will be felt by all who knew her, adding “But we pray that God will give her justice.”

As news of the incident broke, the tragedy has sparked a broader conversation about the prevalence of domestic violence and the need for increased awareness and support for victims.

The severity of the allegations couple with the tragic loss of Sankay’s life has cast a shadow over her husband’s reputation and raised serious questions about the responsibility of those in positions of authority as well as the attitude of silence by community dwellers.

The loss of Sankay also left a void that will be felt for years to come and the allegations against her husband have shattered the trust and confidence of many who once held him in high regard.

Meanwhile, report also gathered from the community had it that family members of the couple have been engaging into serious family feud over the actual cause of death of Sankay’s death since the event occurred.

Accordingly, the wife’s family is accusing the husband’s family of trying to also suppress the matter because the husband is an influential lawyer; however, efforts are still being made to speak to Cllr. Horton as the deceased is being laid at the Abraham Roberts Funeral Parlor.
