Weah’s Foreign Minister Leads Opposition Political Party

The Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Weah-led government is now the political leader of the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE).

Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah was the second chairperson of opposition MOVEE that led the party to the 2017 election under the leadership of Dr. Mills Jones.

History records that Kemayah and several others expelled Dr. Jones, their political leader for wanting to emerge with the then ruling party, the Unity Party, during the second half of the 2017 elections that brought Weah to power.

The move by the party stalwarts placed the entire party in coma and Kemayah like many other partisans’ switched alliances while Kemayah’s loyalty was felt in the ruling establishment following his appointment to the United Nations and now to the Foreign Ministry despite a serious sexual abuse scandal hangs over him in Liberia’s diplomatic Mission in the United States.

Meanwhile, after joining the Rainbow Alliance, Kemayah and his followers have returned to revamp the party and held a national convention were he was overwhelmingly voted though in abstentia as he had travelled with President George Weah to the 77th UN General Assembly.

Meanwhile, in his acceptance speech on Saturday, October 8, 2022, in Monrovia Kemayah now Weah’s boy said, the party will only field Representative and Senatorial candidates in the 2023 elections.

He called on politicians to demilitarized political activities ahead of the 2023 elections, stressing, “MOVEE is bigger than any individual and that MOVEE is moving forward.” 

He said their party will not support insults and called on the partisans to allow everyone campaign maturely in this new dispensation and continue on that path adding. “Let’s do away with militancy as a party.”

Kemayah announced that the party will not field presidential candidate in the impending 2023 presidential and legislative elections.

He also appreciated President George Manneh Weah for his commitment to a free, fair, transparent and inclusive elections in 2023. 

“I accept my election as the political leader of MOVEE by the National Convention. I will serve you rightly. I want to assure you that we will not allow our egos and aspirations to surpass the interest of the Liberian people and in the next six years; we will demonstrate our leadership with foremost commitment and we will move MOVEE forward,” he said.

As part of the party’s quest in ensuring women’s representation at all fronts, Minister Kemayah said, MOVEE will ensure a 50 percent female representation in the leadership of the party.

“Let’s go for that and it’s our commitment. Let’s see it as an unconditional commitment,” he stated.
