Former President, George Weah, has officially unveiled and dedicated several projects, among which was the Bicentennial Square at the famous Providence Island, the birth place of Liberia.
Speaking at the ceremony on Friday January 19, 2024, the former President reminded Liberians of the country’s dark past and how important it is to maintain and sustain the current peace for the betterment of the country.
“I saw the war and I embraced peace; the peace I brought, the peace I promoted, and the peace I stood for, is the peace I give back to you my fellow Liberians,” Weah told the gathering Friday.
He urged Liberians to keep the peace, no matter what, stating, “Enjoy your motherland, Liberia.”
Presenting the Bicentennial monument, he stated that it stands as testimony of the truth, as well as the collective peace, unity, and freedom as a nation and people, stressing that the Bicentennial represents the country’s value history and also depicts the people’s unity in diversity.
“It also represents our hard-earned peace after years of civil conflict and shows that peace is fundamental in all that we seek,” he noted.
Weah re-emphasized the need for Liberians to take pride in their rich history and seize every moment in order to get global attention over Liberia’s unique culture and tradition; and told the gathering that it is his hope and desire that the new administration will also work to continue on such path in helping to solidify the people’s sense of nationalism and patriotism.
According to him, the Bicentennial project is one of the proudest of his administration, as it paid homage to all of the organizers and relevant agencies of government.
The unveiling and dedication of the Bicentennial square, which is a land mark initiative, was organized by the Bicentennial steering committee, Liberia Crusaders for Peace, including other relevant agencies of government, as a project to keep the legacy of President George Weah alive, for which he commended the entire hard-working team.
Weah also dedicated a modern state-of-the-art VIP Lounge at the Roberts International Airport in lower Margibi County.
The dedication was done on Saturday, January 20, 2024, and the new facility with gold and gray is named and styled “the Clar Marie Weah VIP Lounge” at the RIA.
Speaking at the dedicatory ceremony, the former Liberian leader said he was pleased to have completed the project in time, noting that the project came following his visit from Congo Brazzaville, where he attended the dedicatory ceremony of a modern airport in that country and saw the need to return home to domesticate it to Liberia, as he is glad to fulfill such land mark project.
“We served well and our works over the years are living testimonies and we will be back in 2029,” he noted.
