The Standard-bearer of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), George Weah, describes the ferry in David’s-tar, Bong County as a death trap and has promised to construct a modern bridge.
The bridge which currently uses a man-made wooden ferry to transport the local residents, including goods and services, was donated by former Vice President Joseph Boakai for residents of District 7.
According to him, it is very sad and embarrassing to see such a ferry in this 21st century, which is a serious death trap for the residents of Bong County.
He made the disclosure on Monday, September 11, 2023 when he visited David’s Town, instructing the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Samuel Tweah, to revisit the site and do an assessment of the area, in order to begin the construction of the modern bridge project.
He also instructed the head of the Liberia Maritime Authority, Lenn Eugene Nagbe, to collaborate with the Finance Minister in making sure that the wooden ferry is replaced with a modern ferry, and make the project fast, in order to ensure safety, as well as the smooth movement of people and goods, while the modern bridge project gets underway soon.
“After my inauguration, I will come back here to dedicate this new bridge and pass through David’s Town to Fuamah District, Bong Mines, and subsequently to Margibi County,” he noted.
He said that the man-made ferry was fixed in the opposition’s time, but during his time, considering himself as a modern man, he added that his people will benefit from a modern ferry.
Narrating his story to the people of Bong County, he disclosed that he has seen suffering, felt suffering, but has over the years defeated suffering, and as such, he will not allow his people to experience what he has experienced over the years.
In a joyous mood, the happy residents of David’s Town, in Sanoyea District in Bong County, commended President George Weah for his commitment to end their age-old nightmare in their area.
The Bridge links Margibi to Bong County, including other major surrounding towns and villages, as well as two clans.
The lack of good health care and educational facilities, including bad roads, among others, are major issues the people have experienced for decades.
President Weah also awarded one of the first time voters a scholarship from the secondary to the university level in Totota District 6, for her boldness and activeness.
Responding to the President’s promises, the Bong County residents appreciated him for the level of development for the past years; they appealed to Liberians to maintain the peace of the country, during and after the October 10 Presidential and Legislative Elections.
While appreciating the President for the level of development, the business women of Ma Konah Town in Bong County commended the President for the provision of quality education across the country.
Meanwhile, President Weah has dedicated a newly constructed modern market in Salala, Suacoco District, for the benefits of the market women who are striving to sell their goods under the rain and sun.
