“Therefore, I call upon you, my fellow Liberians, to work with me towards achieving a reconciled, united and prosperous nation. I renew my pledge to you today, to provide quality leadership, a leadership of inclusive participation, openness and accountability aimed at reducing poverty and improving the quality of life for all,” President George Weah stressed.
Delivering his special message on Independence Day, the Liberian leader called for genuine Unity among Liberians noting that togetherness as a nation will encompass the peace and prosperity of all Liberians.
“Together, We Are Stronger.” So, let me recommit as I stand at this podium that our togetherness will encompass the peace and prosperity of all Liberians,” he admonished Liberians.
President Weah indicated that the presence of justice in Liberian will be evident in advancing the nation with the involvement of all; everyone including politicians, opposition and civil society groupings.
“We advance our nation with the involvement of us all. We will face the challenges, but let us not be overwhelmed. We must do all within our powers to continue to plant the seeds of unity, maintain peace and reconcile our nation and its people,” President Weah pointed out.
Meanwhile, President Weah has applauded Liberia’s Orator and Nobel Laureate, Leymah Gbowee, for what he described as her ‘inspiring and thoughtful’ address to the nation.
Despite the strong message, which many people termed as Anti-government message, President Weah, expressed gratitude and indicated that the Orator’s message has given him and Liberians new insights into the importance of peace and a renewed hope for a better Liberia.
“This, in essence, is the true meaning of “Pro-Poor.” Fellow citizens, ‘Together We Are Stronger.’ Let me state one of my favorite parts of our National Anthem, which states, “In union strong, success is sure. We cannot fail with God above our rights to prove we will over all prevail” he said.
