“We will bring Henry Costa back to Liberia to face a formal criminal investigation regarding the Laissez passé scandal,” Liberia’s Solicitor General, Sayma Syrenus Cephas has vowed.
The country’s Solicitor General said the investigation will establish whether the Laissez passé was a theft, a criminal conspiracy or a forgery; stressing, “Where it is established that there is a probable cause to prosecute, we will ask the County Attorney of Montserrado to draw an indictment against him.”
Cllr. Cephus noted that the actually Laissez passé acquire by Costa could be as the result of a parallel system within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) that must have issued out several Laissez passé, which they do not have any information on, adding that is why the case has been elevated to a formal criminal investigation to establish how Mr. Costa acquired the Laissez passé with false stamp and signature.
Cllr. Cephas who appeared on the 50-50 Talk Show Program on Sky FM accused Costa’s legal counsel, Kangar Findley, of ‘aiding and abetting’ his efforts of absconding from the country because he had earlier promised to ensure that his client returns to court when called upon but failed to keep his side of the mutual agreement between him and the court.
However, the Solicitor General assured that the CoP’s chairperson will be safe when he returns to the country and added, “He will be given a fair and impartial trial and will also be represented by a counsel.”
In the meantime, Cllr. Cephas has warned that it will be a serious miscalculation by some supporters of Mr. Costa who will want to go and assemble at the Sierra Leone Embassy with the intent that Mr. Costa has been arrested in sierra Leone, emphasizing, “I have communicated this information to the LIS and other security operators and anyone who turns up to cause any disturbances will be arrested and prosecuted.”
Prior to his recent arrest at the Lungi Airport in Sierra Leone, Mr. Costa was denied by the Liberia Immigration officers at the Liberia International Airport (RIA) to leave the country for the United States of America (USA) on grounds that his Laissez passé was fake.
