The Champions of the Liberia Football Association national first division league Watanga, has safely arrived in Algeria to honor the first leg qualifiers of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), champions league according to multiple reports.
The Liberian outfit depart their home soil early this week by road to neighboring Cote d’Ivoire where they book a flight on Wednesday August 14, 2024 for the Algerian capital to take on top Algerian club Mouloudia Club d’Algers as a means of kicking their 2024/2025 continental champions league campaign.
According to the public relations department, the trip to the neighboring country by road made by Watanga was as result of the lack of direct flight from Liberia to Algeria.
Roland Bandokai claimed that several searches were done by the club officials and management to have a timely flight to Algiers but all airlines could not present one of such to the delegation.
“We started our journey by road to Ivory Coast because there was no flight that could bring us straight to Algeria. The reason we even used the road to get to Ivory was also because there was no available flight,” Bandokai told this paper in a conversation on arrival in Algiers.
According to him, the delegation had a safe flight from Cote D’ivoire to Algeria and were welcomed by the authorities of the opposing host Mouloudia Club d’Alger. Watanga is currently lodging in Bay Diad Hotel which is about 10 minutes away from the match playing venue.
Watanga’s public relations officer furthered that the team is highly spirited to get the campaign started with a win in their first match in order to have the process of playing in CAF champion’s league initiated on a good footing.
He said the players from different expressions are confident of having the job well done and the officials of the club and delegation have committed their fullest support to stand by the Liberian represented team.
Watanga will be in action on Sunday August 18, 2024 in the first leg qualifier with an expected return leg match.
