Liberian People Party (LPP) Standard Bearer, Tiawan Saye Gongloe, has described as “wasteful” President George Weah’s travels out of Liberia.
President Weah has left the country along with a huge delegate for the period three weeks or more to participate in several events including the World Cup games featuring his son; the climate change summit in Egypt, Morocco among other activites.
Weah who left Liberia on Tuesday, November 1, to Tangier, Morocco to participate in the MEdays International Forum’s 14th Edition, is now Cairo, Egypt at the 27th climate change conference dubbed COP27.
But Gongloe, maintained that the President’s long trip will have no triggered down effect on the populations, as such, it could have been better for him to used what he labeled as ‘tax payer money’ to address other pressing national issues instead of using it to travel for such a long period.
“I see this other travel by our President as useless because there will be no tangible or something to show upon his return to the country. If you may recall, this is not the first time the President has traveled and bringing nothing back to show Liberians after using their taxes,” he said.
The LPP man made the remark yesterday when he officially received two pickups and a printer from Team Gongloe Minnesota Chapter at his party’s headquarters in Congo Town.
Accordingly, Gongloe called on the Liberia National Legislature to ensure that Weah is invited before them to explain to the Liberian people the reason behind his entire trip out of the country.
Commenting on the Liberia successful pass of the 2023 Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) scorecard, Gongloe noted, “It is shame on the part of the government to even be celebrating this pass.”
“I say this because this is something that we all expected from this government since its inception. And interestingly, why will the government be celebrating something that does not reflect the impact on the lives of the Liberian people and for me, I see this as a mere bluff,” he intoned.
Meanwhile, Gongloe has also attributed his resignation from the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf administration to an act of rampant corruption, bad governance and the political will for the then President to investigate and prosecute corruption government officials.
“I am a man of integrity and that I will remain until my last breath. In testament to that, if any of you can recalled, I did resign my post from the Ellen government because of corruption, bad governance and her lack of political will to act and it was something that did not satisfy me, so I thought to do the needful,” he averred.
Earlier presenting the pickups and printer, a member of the Board of Directors of Team Gongloe USA Minnesota, Tony Leewaye, said he was excited to handover the vehicles what he described as the “integrity team and Liberia only hope” on behalf of the colleagues.
He added that the vehicles and printer donated to Team Gongloe Liberia Chapter are intended for the upcoming 2023 general elections campaign period which he said will help reach them to hard-to-reach counties.
