The West African Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) Liberia wishes to congratulate all Liberians for actively participating and contributing to having a peaceful general and presidential run-off elections, held on October 10 and November 14, 2023, respectively.
They also applaud the efforts of the National Elections Commission (NEC), political parties, the Joint Security, Civil Society Organizations, women, and youth groups for their contributions towards the generally peaceful electoral process.
WANEP commends President George Manneh Weah of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) for gracefully acknowledging and accepting the results, and extending congratulatory messages to the people of Liberia as the winners of the election, and former Vice president, Ambassador Joseph Nyuma Boakai of the Unity Party as President-elect of the Republic of Liberia.
The election outcome is a victory for democracy and Liberians have proven that it is possible to change leadership through democratic means. Considering this, the stage is set for democratic stability, progress, and development in the country. Therefore, WANEP urges the incoming leadership to sustain peace, reconcile communities, and foster democratic governance for the benefit of the nation. Also, citizens and political party supporters are implored to remain calm, respectful, and tolerant as the political transition unfolds.
Once again, WANEP applauds its local and international observers, data collectors, analysts, communication experts, and eminent persons in the Election Situation Room (ESR), for contributing to strengthening democracy and electoral integrity in Liberia. The ESR is an integral part of the WANEP Electoral violence Monitoring, Analysis, and Mitigation (E-MAM) project, supported by the European Union and complemented by Swedish and Austria Development Agencies.
