The West African Health Organization (WAHO) Liberia National Steering Committee hosted its inception meeting bringing together stakeholders from ECOWAS, the Ministry of Health, the ECOWAS National Office (Administration & Finance Committee), and a representative from the Liberian Delegation to ECOWAS Parliament.
The meeting covered the statement of intent, the rationale of the establishment of the committee, and an overview of the ongoing project.
The WAHO National Steering Committee was established to guarantee performance of interventions and results from WAHO-funded activities by closely monitoring the progress of activities and projects, ensuring stakeholders actively participate in decision-making as it relates to projects.
This new inclusive policy of involving national stakeholders and targeted beneficiaries aims at ensuring the effective and efficient use of funds and technical assistance for the benefit of community citizens.
The ECOWAS Resident Representative expressed explicit confidence in the committee and admonished them to work hard to achieve the set objectives.
The WAHO Liaison Officer, Cuallau Jabbeh Howe informed the meeting of WAHO’s plan to extend the existing WAHO Health Center at BO-Waterside by upgrading it to provide quality services to the community and cross borders travelers.
The modification will include an Operating Theatre, fencing of the entire facility, installation of a Water system, Solar Power system, amongst others.
The Project is estimated at US$468,000.
Committee members assured WAHO of their commitment to support WAHO efforts in the Health sector in Liberia.
