WAEC Liberia Office Appeal To Gov’t

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Liberia office is appealing to government to continue with the arrangement of supporting the Saturday tutorial classes for secondary schools’ candidates.
It said such project has helped the number of successful candidates who passed in this year’s examinations as compared to last year when over 150 schools’ candidates failed.
The Head of WAEC Liberia, Dale Gboto, made the appealed when spoke to the media yesterday in Monrovia and said that the government should be commended because had it not been for the tutorial there would have been another mass failure.
He stated that was averted and it pay-off within spite of the unsuccessful candidates in the 46 schools who have been warned not to hold any convocational or gradual exercise.
For two years now, government has been financing the payment of fees for Liberia secondary’s candidates in the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSSCE). Government began sponsoring the tutorial classes to augment the strength of candidates who been writing these examinations during the two academic years.
However, Gboto stressed the need for government to continue the program for the next 2 to 3 years by then the performance rate of Liberians in the exams would have improved.
“We want our candidates to do well in these examinations so they can be among the best in the region and that can only happen, when we help them improved,” he stated. Meanwhile, registration for would-be re-sitters is said to be ongoing at the moment; written by Throble Kaffa Suah
