Violent Storm Leaves Several Homeless In Maryland

Several people have been  homeless in Barrobo, Dugboken, and Glofaken, Maryland County, following a violent storm that  affected both communities.

The former Barrobo Statutory District Superintendent, Mr. J. Gbajulu Toe, has called on the Government of Liberia and the National Disaster Management team for urgent assistance.

According to Toe, about 50 people in Glofaken and Dougboken have been left homeless due to the storm. He made this statement during a radio interview on the Voice of Pleebo Radio on February 26, 2025.

Toe also expressed concern that no local government officials, including the lawmakers of Maryland County, have visited or identified with the victims.

He explained that those affected by the natural disaster have lost properties, including food supplies.

As a result, over 50 people, including women and children are now seeking shelter in Barrobo.

The former superintendent noted that disaster of this nature has become common in Barrobo District.

He recalled that years ago, the Dougboken Public School, the Commissioner’s Compound, and several families were also affected by a similar  inclement  weather.

He mentioned that Isaac B.W. Brown, Moses Weah Dome, and Ggawabato, are among the heads of families affected in Glofaken, while others in Dougboken are also faced with similar situation.

Toe emphasized that the victims urgently need zinc sheets, nails, food, and other essential supplies to help them rebuild their homes.

He appealed to the government, NGOs, humanitarian organizations, and the Liberian Red Cross to intervene by providing construction materials to support the affected families in rebuilding their houses.
