US Warns Politicians, Supporters Against Violence

The US Ambassador to Liberia, Michael McCarthy, says the upcoming polls are significant to the peace, security and democracy of the country.
The United States government warned politicians or leaders of political parties not to allow their supporters or followers to engage in violence before, during and after the Presidential and legislative elections next year.
He made these comments recently when spoke to the state-owned ELBC known as the Liberia Broadcasting System in Monrovia.
McCarthy said politicians, who commit to peaceful conduct, must also commit their followers to peace, stating that politicians who are unable to lead their political parties and followers are simply unable to lead the country.
He said the United States Government, as a champion of democracy and good governance, will not also sit idly and allow politicians bully the National Elections Commission (NEC), noting that NEC will continue to attract donor partners as an integrity institution.
Meanwhile, the United States has included Liberia in its short-term program to solve global food shortage as one of the several countries to benefit from the “Feed the Future Program,” as Russia’s aggression on Ukraine continues.
McCarthy noted that the program is a leeway to fighting food insecurity and hunger, adding that the United States government has been working to build the resilience of food systems, help farmers boost production and feed the most vulnerable households, among others.
“The Feed the Future Program will magnify and produce the desired results of the food and agriculture programs supported by the United States over the years,” McCarthy stated.
