UP Refutes Gov’t Formation Claims

By Gideon Nma Scott, Jr.
The Unity Party has refuted claims and termed it as ‘fake news’ that its leader, Amb. Joseph Boakai, has begun forming his cabinet, pending his inauguration on January 22, 2024.
Over the past few days, there has been widespread information on a list of 25 individuals that were shortlisted by the UP to form part of the first batch of top-level officials that would be appointed in the Boakai-Koung government.
According to the Unity Party Secretary General, Amos Tweh, the formation of the UP-led government would be no secret to the public, because they (the public) have handed over the mantle of authority to Amb. Boakai and have mandated him and the UP to restore the sanity of the State and rebuild and rebrand the nation.
“What is being spread around by some folks on social media and other news outlets is complete fake news. If Amb. Boakai has named anyone to his cabinet, I would be one of the very first persons to have such information. But, up till now, neither the UP nor its alliance has named anyone to any office,” Tweh said.
He stated that the UP will form a government that will serve the Liberian people in the best possible way, and individuals that would be scouted to serve in the government will meet the approval of the people.
He said, “Amb. Boakai and Sen. Koung are not under pressure to form our government and will not do so in a jiffy to please an individual or certain groups of people. I can assure you that the UP and its alliance government is one that will meet the approval of the Liberian people when it is announced.”
Many persons, including transitional team member, Abraham Kromah, were speculated to form part of Boakai’s government. It is speculated that AB Kromah may be appointed as the Inspector General of the Liberia National Police. AB Kromah, as he is commonly known, is a former Deputy IG for operations (102) at LNP and is credited for his robust stance against terroristic acts allegedly perpetrated by some commercial motorcyclists, motorists, tricyclists (keh-keh operators), and crime in general when he served as the LNP 102 in the Ellen Johnson-led government.
