United Methodist Women End Team Liberia’s TfT Refresher

 The Conference United Methodist Women Organization (CUMWO)of the Liberia Annual Conference has ended a five-day training in Monrovia for Team Liberia.

According to the leadership of the Conference United Methodist Women Organization, the essence of the five days refresher Training for Transformation (TfT) was intended to enhance Team Liberia’s knowledge and skills in preparation of how to do activism, advocacy, development, and partnership in communities.

The trainers of the workshop stressed that the training was aimed at producing trainers of trainers to impact the requisite skills and provide the needed tools to engage the various communities in order to empower them to take ownership and have control of developmental programs in a sustainable form and manner.

The Regional Missionary of the South Sahara Africa, Finda Quiwa, pointed out that the Training for Transformation Workshop is a well calculated developmental program intended to transform women and girls in the United Methodist Church.

She noted that the workshop was funded by the United Women in Faith to assist workers in the field who are encouraging the development of self-reliant, creative communities among others.

She further indicated that the goal of the training is to see the personal growth of women in the communities and the prioritization of self-reflection and self-awareness represented in the wisdom of the saying “change begins with me” and the “work of my hands.” 

The training addressed individual’s internal struggles as they grow to understand more deeply who they are, their purpose in life, and the areas of their desires.

It also focused on the capacity of the participants to serve as agents of change in their respective communities while seeking to address the basic needs of their communities.

Meanwhile, the president of the Conference United Methodist Women Organization, of the Liberia Annual Conference, Dr. Muriel V. Nelson embraced the training and termed it as second and most important phase of the entire training process.

She lauded the training team and encouraged “Team Liberia” to go back to their communities to share their experiences with others as they all strive to transform their lives.

Twenty participants from across the Liberia Annual Conference, women and young women, participated in the training.

Since the formation of team Liberia in 2020, they continue to work with both Urban and rural communities in providing leadership and livelihood skills training, Small Agriculture businesses, Psychosocial and Legal Counseling, medical support and scholarships to women and young women.

It can be recalled that the first phase of the TFT was held in September of 2022 which laid the foundation for this refresher.

Two facilitators, Dr. Victor Massaquoi and Mrs. Keziah Kargbo of the Sierra Leone Annual Conference led this significant impact as they deliberated on several topics relating them to great women in the bible including other areas of focus; Community building, Awareness and Relatedness to others, Transformative Development, Community Needs Assessment amongst others; Vivian Cooke reports
