The United Methodist University (UMU) marked a significant milestone over the weekend with its 20th Commencement Convocation Baccalaureate Service on March 16, 2025, offering graduates a moment of spiritual reflection before their official graduation.
Delivering an inspiring sermon, Bishop James Boyce-Caulker of the Sierra Leone Annual Conference, United Methodist Church, emphasized the values of unity, perseverance, and shared achievement.
Reminding graduates that their success was made possible through the unwavering support of family, faculty, and the wider community, “Go and know that we did it together.”
The service, held at First United Methodist Church, brought together university administrators, faculty, students, parents, and well-wishers in a solemn yet, joyous gathering.
Melodious worship songs, prayers, and words of encouragement created an uplifting atmosphere as graduates prepared for the next phase of their lives.
UMU president Emmanuel F. Bailey, commended the graduates for their dedication and acknowledged the commitment of the university’s faculty and staff.
“This journey has not been easy, but through faith, hard work, and collaboration, you have reached this milestone,” he said.
Dr. Bailey echoed the preacher’s message, emphasizing the collective efforts that contributed to the students’ success.
“We stand here today because of the sacrifices of many. As you step forward, please carry the spirit of unity,” he added.
The baccalaureate service sets a reflective tone for the upcoming 20th commencement ceremony, leaving graduates with a message of gratitude and shared triumph as they prepare to embark on their professional journeys.
UMU’s 20th Commencement Convocation is scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the Liberty Christian Fellowship in Upper Johnsonville, Barnersville with 700 leaving the academic walls with different degrees in all courses offered.
