The resident Bishop of the United Methodist University, Samuel J. Quire, has disclosed that due to the calmness of Monrovia, there is something new coming to Liberia.
Bishop Quire spoke on the baccalaureate program of the United Methodist University’s 19th commencement convocation, which was held at the First United Methodist Church on Ashmun Street, Monrovia, Liberia
“When I was coming, a voice said to me that something new has happened to Liberia, I don’t know whether you are feeling what I am feeling. If you agree with me, there is complete calm in Monrovia and the atmosphere of prosperity is hanging in the air,” Bishop Quire disclosed.
He also urged the students who will be receiving their degrees on Tuesday, saying, “You have to use your degree or you will lose your degree. You have to put yourselves in to all of what you learned, put your skills to work so that in the end, the prosperity that is hanging in the air, you will be part of it,” he expressed.
He further said, “We are in the new dispensation and you cannot be left behind.”
For the Baccalaureate speaker, Rev. Sanjee Abioseh Stepter, moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Liberia, she encouraged the United Methodist students to have faith in God, so their struggle will not go unnoticed.
Speaking on the theme: “Embracing the message,” Madam Stepter noted, “You have embarked a trail and we are all gathered here today to celebrate this memorable thing in your life with you. There will be happiness in the future, that’s why he wants you to endure the challenges, so as you will receive your degrees on Tuesday, get prepared for a new level.”
She added, “Don’t give up your trust in God to move your life forward; walk forth with the spirit of endurance, and if nobody is going to graduate you, graduate yourself,” she advised.
Meanwhile, the United Methodist University is expected to graduate over 1,000 students in various disciplines on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, in Doemah’s Town, Margibi County.
The program will start at 10:00 am, with all participants expected to be seated by 9:45 am
The University’s Board of Directors approved the students for graduation, following intense scrutiny by the Faculty Senate and the Education Committee of the Board.
The UMU Board approved the students on Friday, January 26, 2024. According to the university’s administration, the students will graduate from both undergraduate and graduate schools.
“We have endeavored to work and prepare the students for the various disciplines for which we will be granting them degrees,” Yah Donlah Gonway-Gono said.
As President of the University and Executive Secretary of the UMU Board of Directors, Gonway-Gono said preparing the students was part of the mandate given to her when she was hired in June of 2021.
