Several United Methodist Church pastors under the leadership of the Gompa District Conference are demanding a special session as same sex marriage rocks the church across the country.
UMC’s Pastor Jerry Kandea said Gompa District is against same sex marriage on grounds that it is against Christian principal and the Holy Bible.
According to Rev Kandea, the decision is stemmed from the approval of same sex marriage during the general conference in the United States held recently which is counterproductive, degrading and undermines the bible teaching in line with God’s policy.
“We the UMC Gompa District pastors, members and departmental heads of all sections are calling on Bishop Samuel Quire to arrange a special session for the church to come up with a special position statement on same sex marriage,” Pastor Kandea disclosed.
The UMC Nimba chapter’s position was contained in a special statement released during Bishop Quire’s visit in Ganta over the weekend.
Bishop Quire and entourage over the weekend arrived in Ganta and organized a mass meeting with UMC clergy and the Christian community about the UMC-Liberia’s same sex marriage but that meeting ended in disarray.
The Gompa District Church revealed that they have already presented a position statement with various counts to the UMC’s head office in Monrovia.
According to the Gompa UMC, there are three key issues contained in the position statement and they include regionalization promotion of sinful culture practices; regionalization is a conveyers of the practice of homosexuality in Africa and no to man marrying man as well as no to woman marrying woman.
