ULFA Embarks On Multi-Purpose Complex Construction

As ULFA elects its new corps of officers, the association president, Dr. Edna Johnny has disclosed plans to construct a multi-purpose complex for the institution.

The University of Liberia Faculty Association (ULFA) on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, held its General Assembly for the Second Semester for 2021/2022 at the Capitol Hill campus of the UL.

The institution, in its General Assembly, elected its new officials on a white ballot.

Those elected include Dr. Edna G. Johnny as President, Dr. S. Morris Cooper (Vice president for Administration), Assistant Professor Alhaji Dukuly (VP for International Affairs.

Others are: Eric Patten as Secretary General, J. Mac Nelson Flomo as Assistant Secretary General, Wolobah Sali Treasurer and Joseph Taylor as Chaplain.

At the assembly, the body also amended tenure of leadership from two years to three years and created the posts of Financial Secretary who won with 60 votes and Assistant Financial Secretary who also won with the same votes as the SG.

Delivering her inaugural address, ULFA Boss, Dr. Edna G. Johnny said the entity has led the establishment of the University of Liberia Credit Union (ULCU).

She noted her leadership intends to build an ULFA that is financially potent and self-reliant and by this, they have embarked on several initiatives.

Dr. Johnny named the operationalization of the Faculty Lounge on the capitol hill campus and gain access to a space at Fendall for a Faculty Lounge.

The ULFA Boss stressed her leadership wants the association members to gain access to the land space at the Fendall Campus for the construction of ULFA multi-purpose complex.

According to her, the leadership will build national and international collaboration for others and improve its image beyond the University of Liberia.

“We are concluding discussions for the operationalization of the ULFA Lounge beginning next semester.”

“On behalf of our Team, I am indeed honored and grateful to all members of the University of Liberia Faculty Association for giving us another overwhelming authority to continue to provide quality and transformational leadership for all of us,” she said.

Dr. Johnny noted the last two years of the leadership’s work has not just been successful, it has redefined their purpose as professionals and given them a space where no one or group can overlook their presence.

Johnny said, “Fellow colleagues, we have started and have taken our tasks head-on with much courage and vigor in the last two years. However, there are still a lot to be achieved. This is the time that we need your support the most for us to consolidate the gains and reap the benefit of our efforts.”

“We have spent a little over US$ 60, 000 for the complete renovation of the Faculty Lounge,” he said.

Dr. Johnny averred the state of the building was very dilapidated and they are concluding arrangements for the furnishing of the building and gain access to a space for Faculty Lounge at Fendall.

“We are currently working with the UL Administration to identify a space at Fendall that we can use as a Lounge until we construct the ULFA multi-purpose complex that will host ULFA officially at Fendall,” he explained.

In relation to constructing the ULFA multi-purpose complex, she said, they have written the UL Administration for over eight months for a space at Fendall but they are yet to respond.

“We are going to reinforce our follow-up to ensure that a space is identified and provided to ULFA for our project. Build National and International collaboration for ULFA

We are currently working with our colleagues from other public Universities to form a national union to advocate for the welfare of all public universities faculties. We have also received several visitors from the region to form a regional Union,” the ULFA Boss said.

Dr. Johnny noted they currently have visiting guests from international Universities discussing with them and planning a visitation tour of their facilities for collaboration on the professional development of ULFA members.

“Improve ULFA Image beyond UL. We currently have a functional Website and we are working to get it up to date to reflect the image and activities of ULFA. We expect that this site will be a source of basic information for people seeking to work with ULFA,” Dr. Johnny concluded.
