The Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA) is concerned about mounting tension brewing among Liberians across the United States over reports of closure of the Liberian Consulate in Minnesota.
The Union calls on the Liberian government to immediately reconsider the decision to avoid the endangerment of over 75,000 Liberian lives and movements.
The Union notes that the Consulate established since 2017 remains an epic center for prosperity for thousands of Liberians in the Midwest, and as such its closure would negatively impact travels and cause huge economic pains.
ULAA also firmly rejects the selection by the Liberian government of a foreign company VFS Global for outsourcing technology services for Liberian passports.
ULAA believes the move is irreprehensible and automatically makes Liberians and Liberian owned businesses in the diaspora spectators in their own economy. It also defeats government pro-poor agenda and prosperity planned widely talked about by President Weah.
ULAA calls on all Liberians in the Midwest (Wisconsin, Chicago, Minnesota, South and North Dakota and other States) to stay calm as it engages relevant government authorities and partners on the matter.
ULAA calls on Liberian groupings in the Midwest to hold off on all planned demonstrations and protest letters to authorities in Washington and assures Liberians across the United States that it will vehemently defend their rights and liberties at all times irrespective of all political odds.
