UL Professor To Lecture On Doctorate Research

A proven Professor of University of Liberia with expertise in International Relations and Foreign Policy Studies, Dr. Josephus Moses Gray will Thursday, January 16, 2020 provide lecture on a one day Academic Forum at the headquarters of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) on Clay Street, Monrovia, the forum begins at 11 a.m.
The forum which is reflects Ph.D. dissertation titled “The Effect of Diplomacy-Liberia- U.S.-China’s Triangular Relations” by Dr. Gray is being presented in collaboration with the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Graduate School of International Studies of the University of Liberia and the Press Union of Liberia (PUL).
During the forum, Prof. Gray will serve as a panelist and provide a one-hour expertise lecture on the dissertation, which will afford Liberian academics, journalists, and students the opportunity to get an understanding of a Ph.D. dissertation and research procedure.
The dissertation contains 566 pages, 3,123 paragraphs, 202, 916 words and 2, 470, 268 characters both single and double spacing while it contains 9,750 punctuation marks, 855 in-text citations. The research work also contains 590 references and 16,265 lines. The dissertation is organized into three major parts and comprises ten major chapters; it sums up with the findings of the study and gives recommendations.
The UL professor earned his PhD from the CEDS University in Paris with high distinction, Magna Cum Laude. The University is located at 37 Quai de Grenelle, 75015, Paris, France. The degree was conferred after Dr. Gray satisfactorily defended his doctoral dissertation for a period of one hour in the presence of an academic jury of six French renowned professors and Doctors of Philosophy.
As a European standard of an academic requirement for a PhD defend, the former president of the Association of Liberian Community in the Republic of France, Mr. Yatay Tuoway attended the academic exercise.
The purpose of the One-Day Academic Forum is to broaden the understanding of Liberian journalists, academics, researchers, students and the general public the opportunity regarding the importance of researches and dissertations.
Dr. Gray interest to in the topic: “The Effect of Diplomacy Liberia, U.S, and China’s Triangular Relations”, was driven by his keen interest in the growing debates among state actors, academics and political pundits regarding the significance of China and the United States current engagement with African leaders, governments and states in general and Liberia in particular”.
The dissertation which traces the history of Liberia, U.S. and China’s triangular relations, their engagement in Africa and foreign aid support towards African governments and states, is unique research which stand as a “milestone”, and “result-oriented”; the dissertation is based on proven scholarly writings
The study attempts to validate existing publications or wide-ranging perceptions about the world’s leading economic powers- China and U.S presence in Africa. This study highlights China and the U.S. presence in Africa and their engagement with African leaders, Governments and Nations.
Chapter one is the general introduction and presents the background of the study, problem statement, research focus, objectives, justification, and significance of the entire research. While chapter two traces the history and examines Liberia, U.S. and China engagement and presence in Africa and the impacts of foreign aid in Africa; and chapter three, provides the methods employed during the study, including research strategy and design, data collection, and data analysis; sampling method, structure review and limitations of the study.
Chapter four provides a vivid picture of Liberia, U.S. and China’s triangular relations, while chapter five evaluates the successes and challenges of Liberian foreign relations, covering the last seven decades from one regime and to the other, from the presidency or ex-president Joseph Jenkins Roberts to present.
Chapter Six provides insights of America and China’s foreign aid to Africa and also analyzed U.S. foreign aid assistance to African governments and states, and compare that to China’s foreign aid assistance to African government. While chapter Seven of the study emphases on the curse of rampant corruption and the scourge of bad governance by African leaders and governments and the role of corrupt African leaders, political bureaucracies, foreign capitalists and authoritarian officials.
Chapter eight assess the role of contemporary Liberian media and its impact on democratic governance and national development. The work discussed in detailed the western media perception about Africa and how the global media have been able to dump negative news materials and information.
Chapter Nine assesses Liberian political system and democratic governance in the context of the new world order, respect for constitutionalism and looks at the uncompromising role of Liberian women in a contemporary politics, and narrates how Liberia became the touch-bearers of democracy in Africa. Chapter ten is used to sum up my findings of the study, presents the summary and gives my recommendations and offer further opinions about future research. Bibliography and appendixes are treated separately out of these chapters.
Meanwhile, Dr. Gray has secured two scholarships for two Liberian students to travel abroad to pursue a PhD and MA studies in chosen disciplines.
