Two Lawmakers Differ On War Crimes Court

Two lawmakers, Samuel G. Kogar of Nimba County District #5 and Rustolnyn S. Dennis of Electoral District #4, Montserrado County have had some bitter exchanges over a resolution calling for the establishment of War and Economic Crimes Court. It all started on Monday, when members of the House of Representatives gathered in plenary to carry on their regular activities when the two lawmakers were seen disagreeing on the matter.
Rep. Samuel G. Kogar disagreed with those who signed the resolution on grounds that his colleagues should have instead drafted a bill instead of a resolution, calling them ‘Elementary Lawmakers’, something which aggravated Rep. Dennis.
Rep. Dennis debunked Rep. Kogar on grounds that Rep. Kogar was discrediting their work and did not see the rationales in their work.
In response, Representative Kogar criticized her and all those who signed the resolution for the manner and form they have proceeded with the War and Economic Crimes Court.
He further urged Rep. Dennis and the rest of those Lawmakers who signed the resolution to at least draft a bill for the War and Economic Crimes Court instead of a resolution which he said would yield no results.
“These guys are wasting their time; this will go nowhere; we are not children to use resolution for our working tools,” he stated.
“The action of my colleagues in crafting a resolution is in mind a group of advocates; we can’t run the Legislature in this way; we are serious people here; so; if they want War and Economic Crimes Court, let them submit a bill instead of writing or signing a resolution which had blended them as advocates,” he disclosed.
On the other hand, the lead campaigner in the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court, Representative Rustolnyn S. Dennis has disagreed with Rep. Kogar.
Rep. Dennis expressed disappointment in Rep. Kogar’s analysis that the resolution was a mere joke.
She assured Rep. Kogar of her committee’s determination to push for the establishment of the court. She said, those who signed the resolution were serious and knew exactly what they are opting for.
As it stands, 50 out of the 73 Representatives have so far signed a resolution calling for the creation of a Special Court to prosecute those that committed heinous crimes in the country during the nearly two decades of civil unrest in the country.
Meanwhile, some lawmakers who spoke to this paper with anonymity have vowed to block the passage of any instrument relating to War and Economic Crimes Court in the country.
