The Tubman University in Harper, Maryland County has indefinitely suspended its student politics on campus.
The university authority imposed an immediate ban on student-based politics until actions that led to ‘stones throwing’ thus leaving the campus in shambles and several properties damaged properties is investigated.
On Wednesday, October 5, violence erupted between two student-based political groups, the Concern Student Movement (CSM) and the Student Unification Alliance (SUA) and scores of students were also wounded at Tubman University.
According to the University’s Acting president, Emmanuel Wreh, the suspension is necessary because instead of the students who are considered tomorrow’s leaders debate issues of national concern and their lessons, they have resulted into “banditry” damaging properties which does not augur well.
Meanwhile, the confusion started when CSM allegedly disrupted their opponent SUA’s rally that was being held at the University’s Student Center on the campus.
According to the University’s electoral body of the Interim Management Committee, each political party during campaigneering was given a day for its activities with an intent to avoid confusion.
It said SUA was given Wednesday, October 5, for campaigning including rally on the campus while CSM was given Thursday, October 6 for said political activity.
Unfortunately and suddenly, no one knows what prompted the CSM to allegedly disrupt their opponent’s activities.
However, CSM’s Solomon Nyemah, has condemned his colleagues’ action describing it as “barbaric” which according to him, is unacceptable at any local and national level neither during student political activity.
While SUA’s Mackie Toe assumed that their activities were disrupted by their opponents on the “fear factor” of being defeated at the poll.
Candidates of the two parties were expected to face each other in the University’s Student Council Leadership elections which are pending.
