The leadership of the tripartite branches of the Liberian government last Sunday met at a legislative dinner called by President Joseph Boakai to strengthen coordination in his administration.
President Boakai extended an invitation to the leadership of the two houses over the weekend to sit at round table with the leadership of the judiciary and some members of the cabinet to have in in house discussion of issues affecting the overall administration of the country and proffer recommendations that are aimed to improve the system.
The dinner was held at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex with all the leaders of the Liberian Senate, the House of Representatives and the Vice President in attendance.
Briefing the gathering, the Liberian leaders disclosed that it was the first time to have the three branches of government at a table to discuss issues of concern to the country since the inauguration.
The President’s call for coordination between all branches of the government comes after growing complains from the two other branches stressing low budgetary support and some other budget constraints which they blame the executive as controller of the budget management system.
President Boakai said, he called to meet with the other officials and the houses leaders to sit and discuss some of the difficulties faced in running the country because the solutions can only be fund coming together.
According to him, no one can understand and solve the problem of the country except those heading the tree branches that gathered at the dinner with a mind of strengthening cooperation and collaboration with in the system of governance.
He reminded the attendees of the dinner that each person heading a branch receives question from the people on why things are not happening in the particular branch and they have to get on top of their games to solve those problems before it gets out of control.
He said, “I appreciate these discussions and wish to have more along the way. We should not allow the media or the social media to dictate to us how to run our government because this is why we were elected.”
The others branch heads namely Speaker Fonati Koffa, Pro-temp Nyonblee Kangar-Lawrence and Chief justice Sie-Nyene G. Youh lauded the President for arranging such a gathering to discuss the issues in government while promising to work along in the interest of the country.
