Tim Weah Launches Scholarship Drive -Donates Sports Materials To West Point

Timothy Weah has launched a scholarship fund drive with an initial amount of US$20, 000 for education as well as sports.

Tim, as he is passionately called and the son of President George Weah, launched the scholarship fund drive on Sunday, July 9, at the newly-constructed sports pitch in the Township of West Point where a one-day friendly tournament was held in his honor by the youth of the Township of West Point.

Speaking to hundreds of Liberians at the West Point Sports Pitch, the Juventus striker stated that the scholarship fund drive is intended to help underprivileged youth in the areas of education and sports.

Tim added that his intervention is aimed at inspiring children who aspire to be greater than what they are currently in society and as a means of fostering growth and development in Liberia.

“I made a promise to Liberia that through my success I will come home and make sure that I give back to my country and this is why I am here,” he noted.

The former Paris Saint-Germain forward, who recently signed for Italian giants Juventus, called on the children of Liberia to persevere and continue to remain focused to keep their dreams and hopes alive.

“So, the most important thing as a family is for you to know that you must keep your dreams and hopes right in your heart because it can one day come true. You see what happened to the Papay (President Weah) and the same thing happening to myself. So, you guys can be the next stars,” the young Weah emphasized as he donated five sets of jerseys along with other soccer materials to the youths of West Point.

He asserted that his intervention is in the areas of education and football was based on grounds that about one percent of the Liberian children will be professional footballers while the others will become the next doctors, heads of state, politicians and scientists, among other professionals.

Gracing the one-day soccer tournament were the First Lady Clar Marie Weah; Minister of Youth and Sports, D. Zeogar Wilson, Minister of State without Portfolio, Trokon Kpui; Presidential Aide, Sekou Kalasco Damaro and George Weah, Jr. alias Champ Weah, who participated in one of the friendly encounters and bagged two goals.
