The Inquirer is a leading independent daily newspaper published in Liberia, based in Monrovia. It is privately owned with a "good reputation".

Thief In Disguise

The campus of the Haywood Mission Institute was a scene of drama on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, when robber, burglar, shoplifter, and pickpocket was arrested disguised as student of the Institution, to the surprise of many.

Lorania Saydee, 15, fully dressed in the uniform of the Haywood Mission School, who is not a student of said learning center, managed to camouflage herself with the rest of the students and made her way to the 11th grade class of the school and confidently took her seat.

Upon being recognized by others who thought she looked strange and wanted to know her better, they realized it was this very young lady that robbed a couple of students of cell phones and other valuables a year ago and was never seen again.

Immediately, the campus security arrested her and turned her over to the Liberia National Police.

Members of the fourth estate were called in, at which time the young lady explained what led to her act over the years that finally caught up with her.

During the press interaction, Saydee said she is a victim of circumstance, as she had to run away from home due to lack of support by her single mother who couldn’t send her to school, and the whereabouts of her father is unknown.

When asked how she got the uniform, she responded that she asked a former student of the school that once lived in her community, as her dream is to one day attend the H.M.I, even though her mother is not in the position to get her registered at the school.

She said she was forced into stealing in order to feed and survive. When the mother of Lorania, Jenida George, was contacted, she resented the action of her daughter and said she does not want to be party to whatever she is involved with or connected to.

Similarly, this same young lady again dressed in the H.M.I uniform and went at the Samuel A. Stryker Funeral home in Sinkor, and pretended to be a member of a family that went to remove a body. A gentleman entrusted her with his bag that contained a laptop and other valuables, which was taken away by her.

The gentlemen later went on the school campus to inquire of her, but was told that she was never a student of the institute.

Lorania, who give contradictory information, is believed to have been living with her mother on the Peace Island, but during the interview with reporters in the Wroto Town Community, she was revealed to be working with a criminal cartel or group victimizing people across the country.

This ruthless band of immature individuals are on a campaign to cajole and rob their victims and steps should be taken by school authorities to bring it to an immediate end.
