Tarlue Development Foundation Identifies With Fire Victims In Duazon -Calls On Gov’t For Intervention
The Tarlue Development Foundation (TDF) has stepped forward to assist victims of a devastating fire that recently ravaged a 13 bedroom in the Duazon community, Margibi County.
The organization, known for its commitment to community development and humanitarian efforts, however, used the occasion and called on the government to take immediate action to support those affected by the disaster.
On Monday, March 31, 2025, a serious and devastating fire outbreak leaves several families homeless and in dire need of assistance, with eyewitnesses narrating that the fire started in the early hours of the morning, quickly spreading through the entire house.
According to them, the rapid spread of the flames was exacerbated by strong winds, and despite the efforts of local residents, the blaze consumed the whole house before it could be brought under control, destroying all the inhabitants’ belongings.
However, the aftermath of the fire has left a profound impact on the community, with the families losing not only their homes but also their livelihoods, including cash, clothes and other belongings.
All of those occupying the house were left with nothing but the clothes on them, as the emotional toll of the disaster has been devastated even though there was no death or injury caused by the fire.
But since the incident, local leaders and community members have expressed their grief and frustration, calling for urgent assistance from the government and non-governmental organizations.
In that light, the Tarlue Development Foundation then mobilized its resources to provide immediate relief to fire victims through the donations of foods items, including rice, water, and vita among others.
Donating the items, the foundation CEO, Emmanuel Tarlue said, “We are all in this together because it is our responsibility to help our neighbors in their time of need. We must come together as a community to support those who have lost everything.”
Tarlue further urged the government to take a proactive approach in disaster preparedness and response, and asserted, “The government must invest in infrastructure and fire safety measures to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.”
“But at the same time, we hope and pray that the government, through the Disaster Management Agency can come in help our affected brothers and sisters; thankfully we have already written them a note,Pleading for help,” he added.
Tarlue further disclosed that his foundation is working on a comprehensive report detailing the needs of the affected communities and the necessary steps for recovery, which will be presented to government officials and stakeholders.
He added, “We believe that by working together, we can create a safer and more resilient Liberia. So, our goal is not just to provide immediate relief but to ensure that our communities are better prepared for the future.”
In response, on behalf of the beneficiaries, Pastor George Kugbeh said, “We lost everything due to the fire, but we are grateful for the support from the TDF, which is timely, and we hope that others can follow suit.”
