The Tarlue Development Foundation has successfully wrapped up a month-long tournament in District 1, Margibi County, showcasing the talents of youth from twenty participating communities. The tournament, themed “Uniting Margibi County District 1 Through Sports,” featured a total of forty teams, with twenty competing in football and twenty in kickball.
During the opening ceremony, Executive Officer Emmanuel Tarlue emphasized the importance of peace and unity, encouraging teams to focus on friendship and camaraderie rather than solely on winning. To support their preparation, he provided each community with a football.
The tournament was notable for its peaceful atmosphere, with no incidents of violence reported. Both community members and participants praised the Foundation for organizing what many considered the first peaceful sports tournament in the district.
In the finals, Rock Crusher Community faced off against Phebe Gray in football, while Duazon Town competed against Barrack in kickball. Rock Crusher emerged victorious in football, while Duazon claimed the kickball trophy. Cash prizes were awarded to the winners, runners-up, and standout players, including the Most Valuable Player and Highest Goal Scorer.
At the closing ceremony, Mr. Tarlue congratulated all teams and reiterated the tournament’s purpose of fostering unity among youth in the district.
He highlighted that the total cost of the event was just over $2,000 and announced plans for a free vocational school aimed at equipping residents with valuable life skills.
The event was graced by J. Aloysius Tarlue, Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia, who presented the trophies and encouraged community cooperation with the Foundation.
He expressed hope for future collaborations and the positive impact of the vocational school on local youth.
The Tarlue Development Foundation remains committed to empowering Youth in the district.
