Reports emanating from the political corridors of the offices of the Traditional Chief Council in Sanniquellie, say there is a petition to President George Maneh Weah calling for the immediate removal of Nelson Korquoi as Superintendent for Nimba County.
According to the Traditional Chief Council, a vote of no confidence in Superintendent Korquoi has been impose until he proves his innocence of a reported allegation of some LD 1 million that was made available to the people of Gbellay Geh District during the tour of the President, among other things.
The petition outlined the alleged disrespect to traditional chiefs in terms of cordial working relationship couple with his lack of administrative ability to govern the county as Superintendent, respectively.
The traditional council’s petition was sent through the office of Senator Prince Yormie Johnson during the beginning of this year.
During the first visit of President Weah in Gbellay Geh District, he reportedly made available some LD 1 million to the people of the district through the county administration headed by Superintendent Korquoi.
The division of the cash however was rocked with confusion on allegation that the Superintendent personally took away over LD.200, 000 from the cash; this is the second allegation against Superintendent Korquoi since he took office in the county.
The Traditional Elders Chief Council further report that Suprrintendent Korquoi diverted a huge consignment of 25 kg bags of rice donated by President Weah for the July 26, 2022 independence celebrations in the county.
When this paper contacted Superintendent Korquoi via mobile phone for comment, he remain tightlipped thereby promising to call back and never returned the call up to press time
When this paper contacted Senator Johnson via mobile phone, he confirmed receiving a petition from the Traditional Chief Council which called for the removal of Superintendent Korquoi.
According to Senator Johnson, the petition was signed by heads of all the chief in the county saying that they will no longer work with Superintendent Korquoi for allegedly diverting huge consignments of 25 kg bags of rice donated by the President for the independence day celebration couple with lack of cordial working relationship among the chiefs as well as gross insubordination to the traditional chief elders, among other things in the county.
Since the appointment of Superintendent Korquoi, there is reports couple with rumors over the poor working relationship among the local authorities working with Ministry of Internal Affairs; something that is raising concern among the residents in the county.
This is the second report against Superintendent Korquoi in less than two years.
During the beginning of 2022, some youth groups in the county accused Superintendent Korquoi of allegedly selling the county scraps to unknown dealers in the country.
Korquoi is a former chairperson for the ruling Congress for Democratic Change and a former County Inspector for the Ministry of Commerce who now replaces D. Dorr Cooper, as Superintendent of Nimba County.
