A one-day National Steering Committee (NSC) meeting which seeks to ensure maximum protection and the need to conserve Liberia’s Mangrove and wetlands has ended in Monrovia on December 7, 2023.
The project, named and styled “management of mangrove forests from Senegal to Benin” primarily seeks to ensure effective protection of the Lake Piso multiple reserve located in Robersport.
The project which is being implemented by Wetlands International with funding from the European Union (EU) promises to cover other parts of the country in the very near future where wetlands are located to include Marshall Wetlands.
The Project Manager for Sierra Leone and Liberia, Alhaji Malikie Siaka lauded the NSC members for their participation which led to the success of the meeting.
He described their participation as ‘national sacrifice’ and encouraged them to continue in the same spirit and wavelength throughout the lifespan of the project which ends next year June.
He made a detailed presentation on the Grand Mano Master platform which he said will give desired boost to the purpose and intent of the project. Other presentations on grants implementation updates were also made by the FDA, SEC and other grantees.
Earlier in his opening remark FDA Deputy Managing Director for Operations Joseph J. Tally emphasized the need for the NSC members to tighten collaboration so as to make the project see its intended purpose.
He expressed happiness for the level of demonstrated cooperation and urged the committee members to hold together even after the lifespan of the project shall have expired.
The NSC is chaired and co-chaired by the FDA and EPA respectively. Other members include Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Enviromental Protection Agency, the University of Liberia, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Internal Affairs, among others.
