Speaker Chambers Not Perturbed Over Removal Claim

Amidst removal threats by some members of the 54th Legislature, House Speaker, Dr. Bhofal Chambers says, he is neither perturbed nor worried by any-plot to have him ousted –stating that he still enjoys the confidence of the majority of his colleagues who elected him on a white ballot.
Dr. Chambers dispelled the reports to Legislative reporters over the weekend following some aggrieved lawmakers’ threats to remove him and his principal Deputy, Prince Moye from leadership.
This paper has reliably learnt that some aggrieved members are rallying signatures aimed at ousting their two bosses to be tested upon their return from their legislative break.
According to legislative sources, some of the lawmakers are resolved to remove Chambers and his deputy upon their return to the Legislature January 2020 due to lack of leadership , disunity and key among allegations, their refusals to slice their salaries and benefits contrast to their agreements.
According to our legislative sources, the lawmakers many of whom are oppositions had already concluded two separate meetings both in Monrovia, and in Grand Bassa County.
“Following our last meeting, we have the total of 21 legislators who were in attendance signed the resolution to remove Chambers while others have agreed to show us their words including key CDC’s lawmakers also promised to sign this month,” a source asserted.
Providing further reasons for the conspiracy against Speaker and Deputy, our legislative informers said among many things, the dramatic change of the Speaker on the issue of the War and Economic Crimes Court, after President George Weah sought Lawmakers’ advice on the establishment of the tribunal to prosecute those accused of murdering and looting the state during the 14-year upheaval here.
Commenting on the issues of the pending protest on Capitol Hill by staffers of the National Legislature, Dr. Chambers called for calm noting that he is also experiencing delay in paying salaries and benefits.
He also assured that things will get better shortly. “As it relates to delays in their salaries, I myself am yet to receive salaries for the past two months,” he said.
According to him, he will liaise with government financial people to work to ensure that staffers of the Liberian legislature be paid –noting that whilst it is true, government is facing some financial challenges many of which were inherited, there is a need. “Our staffers, like other staffers in the Executive too will be paid,” he stated.
