The Embassy of South African and the Lonestar Cell MTN jointly made significant contributions on Mandela Day as a heartfelt tribute to Nelson Mandela’s enduring legacy of service and sacrifice.
The special day, celebrated globally on July 18, witnessed representatives from both organizations paid visit to the pediatric ward of the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Monrovia.
The day was filled with warmth and compassion as the Embassy staff and the Lonestar Cell MTN employees dedicated their time to the children and nursing mothers at the ward.
The team arrived with backpacks brimming with goodies, thereby bringing smiles on the faces of the young patients and their caregivers.
The items were intended to provide comfort and joy, from toys and books to essential supplies.
The initiative was part of a broader commitment to uphold the values embodied by the late Nelson Mandela, who is celebrated worldwide for his tireless efforts in advocating for justice, equality, and humanitarianism.
By engaging in acts of kindness and community service, the South African Embassy and the Lonestar Cell MTN are keeping Mandela’s spirit alive, emphasizing the importance of giving back to society.
The South African Ambassador expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve humanity in this meaningful way noting, “Nelson Mandela believed in the power of service to transform lives and bring hope. Today, we honor his legacy by reaching out to those in need and showing that we care.”
The Lonestar Cell MTN’s CEO echoed sentiments highlighting the importance of corporate social responsibility remarking, “At Lonestar Cell MTN, we are committed to making a positive impact in the communities we serve. Mandela Day is a reminder for all of us to take action and contribute to the well-being of others.”
The management and staff of the hospital also expressed appreciation for the generous donations and the visit adding, “We are deeply grateful to the South African Embassy and the Lonestar Cell MTN for their support. Their kindness has brought immense joy to our patients and their families.”
Nelson Mandela Day, officially recognized by the United Nations in 2009, encourages people worldwide to dedicate 67 minutes of their time one minute for each year of Mandela’s public service to making a difference in their communities.
The efforts of the South African Embassy and the Lonestar Cell MTN are a testament to the enduring influence of Mandela’s legacy and the universal call to service.
