A shocking tragedy on Christmas, December 25, 2024, occurred, after a boy believed to be 27-year-old allegedly killed his father, known as Pa Shakay in his 60s, after an argument allegedly over Christmas money.

The sad event which left the community in tears all happened when Pa Shakay’s granddaughter, only identified as Beatrice had gone to deliver some Christmas food to her grandfather, but found the door locked upon her arrival at the house.

Beatrice, while crying explained, “I knocked, but grandpa didn’t answer. I saw my uncle outside and asked him where grandpa was. He just said, I don’t know. But I noticed blood near the door, and I became scared.”

“So, I called my mother right away, and said I am at grandpa’s house, but something is wrong. I see blood at the door, and Uncle says he doesn’t know where Grandpa is, and so you need to come now,” she narrated in a shaky voice.

According to her, her mother, being worried and confused, told her husband about their conversation and pleaded with him to do follow-up, stating, “My mother then sent my father to come and check at the house.”

She also disclosed that when her father arrived at the house, he saw her still holding the food that she had carried for her grandfather, as well as the blood stains near the door which also left on her own clothes.

“And when father tried to open the door, we saw blood everywhere, and we followed the blood, and then saw Grandpa, Pa Shakay, lying on the floor, covered in blood with knife cuts on his neck, head, and body,” Beatrice lamented.

Some community residents said they had been noticing problems between Pa Shakay and his son in recent weeks; with the boy always making threatening remarks that he would one day kill his father.

A neighbor who spoke on anonymity said, “They were always arguing. The son kept asking his father for money. Just a few days ago, he even said he would kill him. I didn’t think he was serious and today, his threats have become a reality.”

Another neighbor only identified as D-Boy revealed, “Yesterday, the son told me he saw his father with US$50 and believed he had more money. It looks like he attacked him to take the money and I can’t really tell you the actual story.”

Meanwhile, it is being reported that the perpetrator was later arrested by some community dwellers while trying to escape and was turned over at the nearby police station to undergo investigation and subsequent court trial.
