Shannon Pays Tribute To Fallen Russell -Extends Sincere Condolences To Family, LFA

Liberia Football Association (LFA) Vice President for Administration emeritus, Musa Shannon, says he is sadden by the passing of LFA former President, Willard A. Russell.
Expressing his deepest condolences, Shannon described former FA’s President, Russell, as a true sportsman who was willing to commit everything for the growth of football in Liberia.
“I am told that he was someone who got into football for the right reasons. He wanted to help kids and helped so many. He was a friend, a father, a husband and a great leader. He will be greatly missed. He was one of a kind,” Shannon added
Shannon said: “I like to extend my sincere sympathy to the Russell’s family, the Liberia Football Association and all those who may have benefitted from his time in football administration for such a loss.”
Russell who was also a former member of the Lone Star Mobilization Committee, died in the United States of America on Saturday, February 15, 2020.
During his tenure as President of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), Liberia qualified for its first Africa Cup of Nations finals in South Africa in 1996.
“On that momentous occasion, Russell was not reluctant to raise the spirit of the National Team as President of the local football house. Not only was he a great sports administrator but also a very nice and respectful personality,” commented Shannon.
“Russell is going to be a big miss because he was a leader for so many people.”
for his part, LFA President Mustapha Raji said: “On behalf of the LFA, I extend our sincere condolences to the family.
“My deepest condolences to you my brother Jeremy and the entire Russell’s family,” wrote Vice President Sekou Konneh.
