Shaita Veep Appointed To WAFU Committee

Liberia Women’s Lower League Champions Shaita Angels Football Club Vice president, Benita Urey, has been appointed as co-chairperson of the Liberia Football Association Local Organizing Committee for West African Football Union (A) Women’s Champions League.

Her appointment was announced over the weekend during the Liberia Football Association’s 27th Ordinary Congress held at the FA’s newly constructed Headquarters in Congo Town.
Speaking to reporters after her appointment, Ms Urey said it is always an honor to serve women’s football and see it as a stepping stone.

The Shaita Angels’ boss added that her ascendency to such a committee will help in creating a suitable learning environment to help contribute to the growth and development of women’s football in Liberia.
Ms Urey stated further that her appointment should be a wake-up call to fellow female stakeholders, adding that she strongly believes that her appointment is not all about Liberia, but to show that Liberian female football stakeholders are capable of being at the top level in football across Africa.

“It’s an honor to be announced before my fellow stakeholders and I believe that there is nothing in football that we can’t learn; you can come into football and trust me, together we can change the narratives of football,” she said.

Ms Urey at the same time extended her thanks and appreciation to the president of the Liberia Football Association, Mustapha Raji, for trusting her to work with other permanent football stakeholders; something, she strongly believes will help her learn a lot.

She added, “All thanks and appreciation go to the Liberia Football Association president Raji for believing in me and I can say that this appointment will show to Africa that we Liberians are ready.”
Those appointed by the Liberia Football Association on the committee include: Madam Jodie Reid Seton, LFA’s Third Vice president serving as Chair on the Local Organizing Committee West African Football Union Zone A Women Champions League, Ms Urey as Co-chair and Edwin Barsay, Member.
